The American Juvenile Arthritis Organization is a council of the Arthritis Foundation devoted to serving the special needs of children, teens, and young adults with childhood rheumatic diseases and their families. The American Juvenile Arthritis Organization offers support and information to parents of children with rheumatic diseases through national and local programs that serve the needs of families, health care professionals, and friends, and provides an effective structure for self-help. The foundation provides staff, funds, and materials for Organization activities with volunteers who plan and carry them out.

The American Juvenile Arthritis Organization serves as a clearing house of information for the public on topics from medication, educational rights, and social services to legislative issues. They publish educational materials ranging from free pamphlets to self-help manuals, some in Spanish. The quarterly newsletter, AJAO Newsletter keeps members up to date on activities and current research. There are also a wide variety of videos available for loan. Call for listings.

The American Juvenile Arthritis Organization sponsors research into the causes of adult and juvenile arthritis in hopes of finding improved treatments, preventive measures, and ultimately, a cure. They offer awards for parent leadership and youth leadership, to those who have shown outstanding courage and strength in living with rheumatic disease, and to health care professionals, who have been involved in patient care and been an advocate for children with rheumatic diseases. The Organization's National Conference will be July 4-7, 1996 in San Francisco, California; call for further details.

    JRA List
The JRA List is designed for parents and caregivers of children who have been diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis and adults who have had JRA since childhood. It's a place where we can share our stories, medical histories, updates, and other information that is likely to be helpful to those who have or know a child with JRA. If your child has just recently been diagnosed you may be feeling somewhat relieved to finally have a name and explanation for symptoms your child has had.
