The American Hyperlexia Association is dedicated to the advancement of the education and general welfare of hyperlexic children. They assist in promoting and facilitating effective teaching techniques both at home and at school, and educating the general public as to the existence of this syndrome. They advocate and encourage research related to hyperlexia and seek to assist families of hyperlexic children in accessing appropriate services.
The Association has local support groups with a membership directory that includes a list of regional contact people. They assist individuals who wish to start a support group in their area, and provide parent-to-parent matching through the membership directory or by request providing names and phone numbers to persons in the same geographical area.

The Canadian Hyperlexia Association's mission is to foster awareness, collect, disseminate and share information, practical strategies, and resources regarding the condition, provide opportunities for parents, children and professionals to network, and work toward appropriate, early and on-going intervention. They have local chapters and will provide materials and assistance to individuals who wish to start a support group in their locality. They provide parent-to-parent matching based upon similar interests, experiences, age groups, and location.
The CHA publishes the CHA News, three or four times a year. It is a benefit of membership. They also have a brochure that explains the condition and the organization. They offer a new parent packet that includes, a covering letter, "What is Hyperlexia?"-A characteristics list, membership application, reading/resources list, survey of literature, and notice of upcoming presentations. The Association has a bibliography of articles that are available to members and are in the process of developing a lending library. They have books that are for distribution including "Reading too Soon: How to Help the Hyperlexic Child." For further information and a price list contact them at the above address.
