Schwab Foundation for Learning seeks to raise awareness about learning differences and equips parents, teachers, and other professionals with the resources they need to improve the lives of students with learning differences. Its mission grew out of Charles Schwab's life long struggle with dyslexia and the frustration he and his wife, Helen, faced in trying to find help for their son who inherited the reading difficulty.

In 1989, the Schwabs established a resouce center as a community service to give families information and support on learning differences. It has now extended our services nationwide to provide these valuable resources to parents and educators. It offers a wide range of services for parents and educators to provide information, support and resources to improve the lives of students with learning differences: Information Desk; Web resources; Membership (Member Reference Desk, Guidance, LD Matters, Community Support); Publications (LD Matters, Bridges To Reading, Assistive Technology Guide, TeachEach); Public awareness programs; Northern California Area Services (Information and Referral database, Educational Programs); and Educational Partnerships
