The Myoclonus Research Foundation, established as a Public Foundation in 1980, is dedicated to advancing patient care for individuals suffering with myoclonus. This aim is mainly served by research into the cause and treatment of myoclonus. Because myoclonus is a symptom of many different possible conditions, research into the origin and nature of myoclonus encompasses a diversity of fields within the biological sciences. These include electrophysiology, pharmacology, epileptology, genetics, molecular biology, and basic research into electrochemical structure of the nervous system.
